The Crips
The execution of Stanley Tookie Williams, co-founder of American street gang known as "The Crips", reminded me an episode of South Park.
Cartman was upset about unable to join an organization founded by two handicapped boys, Jimmy and Timmy. Their organization is also called "The Crips", as in "The Cripples".

Since you usually like to de-bunk things, I thought I would mention that Tookie joined the Crips about a year and a half after it was formed. He did control a large territory, but I don't think he can be considered a co-founder.

Thanks Militantlatypus for the tip.
ReplyDeleteOn CNN's website, the link I used, states:
"Crips gang co-founder put to death for 4 murders
SAN QUENTIN, California (CNN) -- Death did not come quickly for Stanley Tookie Williams, the co-founder of the violent Crips street gang who was executed by lethal injection early Tuesday for the 1979 robbery murders of four people in Los Angeles."
I guess CNN is wrong then.
I guess either NPR or CNN is wrong which wouldn't surprise me since the both have a history of not fact checking their own stories.
ReplyDeleteCNN does have it wrong. There is an informative article in the LA Weekly about it.
